Two Shall Become One

Genesis 2:18 "And the LORD God said, "[It is] not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

Matthew 19:5-6 "...For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Man was made in the image and likeness of God. To be in the likeness of someone is to be wired the same way; likeness at its core means to be in the same manner or state of being. As mankind, we are created to be like Him in every way. Because man is the only thing in all of creation that is supposed to be like Him, whatever God says is not good for man must not be good for God. This means that when God said in Genesis chapter 2, "It is not good for man to be alone," He was saying it is not good for God to be alone. In the beginning, God created man; but when the first of mankind was deceived by a thief, God was left alone with none like Him in the earth He had just created.

For this reason, Jesus left His Father and was joined unto His wife (the bride, the church, us), and the two became one flesh. Why? Because God never wanted nor intended to be alone. This is the reason Jesus came, to marry His bride — to become one with His body, the church. We love Him because He first loved us. He wants a relationship, a covenant with you that only comes through marriage. So, for this reason, Jesus left His Father to cling to His wife and the two became one flesh. Jesus, the bridegroom brought back His bride to the Father and presented her unto Him blameless and spotless. We are that bride and have been brought back into the family of God. It's the greatest love story of all time!
